Malmö, Music and Eggs: An Interview with ‘Hater’

Charlotte Edgington | 06.05.2026

Hater are a Scandinavian, four piece, indie-pop band from Malmö, currently touring their latest album, Mosquito, which came out this March. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist, Caroline Landahl, guitarist Måns Leonartsson, bassist Adam Agace, and drummer Lukas Thomasson. This week, we caught up with Hater amid their UK tour to ask them about their favourite bands from back home, eggs, and their biggest HATES!

C: "Last year you ended a three-year hiatus. What did you learn from this time away from music and what made you want to return?"

H: "It was never a break from music really, we kept writing songs and recording throughout that time. But every new songwriting period seems to teach us something new I guess. It might be too early to say exactly what that is still. Maybe that we work good under pressure and that deadlines are bliss to get something done."

C: "What Malmö bands should our UK readers be listening to?"

H: "Oufft! We’re bias here but ‘Mary Anne’s Polar Rig’ is sick! Malin in the band is with us on tour now as our sound tech. Bloody dream. Other bands we like are Quiet Commotion, Zebra and Mari3000

C: Whats your favourite venue you’ve ever played?

H: "Ahhh Vera in Groeningen! Such lovely staff, venue and good vibes. Other venues we like are Loppen in Copenhagen, Stefanos Place in Bologna and Bagni Elsa in Fano. Boiled egg on pizza with mayo for life!"

I think I need to try this combination.

C: "What are some of your biggest musical influences as well as one unexpected influence on your sound?"

H: "We’ve all got different taste buds when it comes to music. But we’ve been playing and following bands in the tour bus, without any particular order: The Fall, Gipsy Kings, Omni, Beak>, Wilco, Morphine, U2 (Adam is a mad fan), TLCamongst a bunch of others. We leave it up to you however the above is expected or unexpected influences."

C: "What's a pedal/piece of gear you couldn’t live without?

H: "Me and Måns have a complete addiction to using capo. So we couldn’t live without them I guess. And our Spaceman pedals!!"

C: "As a band of Haters, what are some things you really really hate?"

H: "I can’t stand eggs Benedict but all the others love it. Apart from trivial small things we ‘hate’, we hate war, injustice and muuuurderrrr"

Fair enough. Can definitely agree on that. Eggs Benedict fans please refrain from blowing up the comments.

C: "So what do you think of Birmingham so far?"

H: "We’ve only played in Birmingham once before together with Ben Howard. Massive arena, didn’t have much time to look around. But the land of Black Sabbath and Broadcast must be something special!! We’re psyched to have some more time on our hands this time around. What should we not miss??"

What should Hater not miss on their visit to Birmingham? Let us know in the comments or better yet tell them yourselves!
